How we sell

The ring only works if both sides trust it

Everything crosses the weighbridge

Cattle and sheep are weighed on the morning of the sale, in front of whoever wants to watch. It slows the day down by an hour and a half and we do it anyway.

Vendors are paid on the Friday

Two clear days after the hammer, whether the buyer has settled with us or not. We carry that risk on our own account rather than pass a slow payer back down the chain.

We turn entries away

Machinery we cannot describe honestly does not go in the catalogue, and stock that would be better sold in the spring gets told so. That is commission we have chosen not to earn.

Faults are read out before the bidding

A cracked block, a lame heifer, an hours clock that has been round twice. Saying it costs the vendor money in the ring and saves us both a fortnight of argument afterwards.
